It's almost that time again...time for dressing up!I've seen some of you dressed to the 9 in Cosplay for 7th Sea larps. I'm looking to dress up as an inexpensive version of a swashbuckling swordsman type character. I don't want to go the pirate route. It's easier, but overdone as well. Does anyone have any good sugguestions for hats, boots, etc etc? Places to find these things relatively inexpensive?

Well, I would suggest that you check out your local Goodwill, or Salvation Army to see what is available. Also, if you have a costume store, check it out, you might find somewhat of a bargin, the closer you get to halloween, as they try to get rid of their overstock before the holiday.

Ren Fairs are also a good place to check out when they are in your area, but they may be more expensive than you are looking for, but still might be able to get a babble or two that helps make the costume.

Otherwise, if you have time and money,  check out the Artist Thread on the board. The first thread is about LARP costuming, and list a few links to stores and other places where you can find such fun stuff to dress up in.

Also, check with your friends, or your friend's friends. You might be suprised in what they have in their closets, from past Halloweens, and they may let you borrow it for this one.

Good luck in your search!

Boots are never cheap. at least not the swashy kind. go dirt cheap at a costume shop and buy the boot tops. these are either tops to tuck into a pair of boots or a boot upper that pulls over your shoe with an elastic band that goes under the sole of the shoe to cover the leg. I like the second type better given a choice.

Hats will be a costume store choice for any sort of wide brim look. a Zorro type hat will work with a few feathers added and part of the brim pinned up.

Shirts... ladies section of goodwill. find a big frilly front in the dress shirts.

pants: anything tight will work just tuck them into the boot things you get.

jackets:This was easier in the 80's. that short cropped jacket works well for this but they are hard to find now. you may need a matador type costume to pull this off.

belts: Walmart women's department. I'm not kidding, big wide things with metal bits for flair.

vests work great IF you add some shoulder peices to them as well.
