Back at the Fox Den Club, Emelio, Rebecca and Sieg along with Reynard, are having a discussion on who it would be best to judge the cookoff, while staying out of Raimondo's way as he went to check on what was salvageable. But before any final decisions can be made Rowena and Renee return from their aquiring back the spices for Raimondo. They had stopped back by Jin's to deliver the rest of the spices and received the saffron for their efforts, and they also had gotten several other spices that he had requested. Taking the spices to him, in what was left of the kitchen, he looked over their assortment, and nodded his thanks. Taking them and a few personal items that he felt he needed, the three of them head out to the table where the others sat. Emelio had made his appoligies and left after paying the tab, and so Rebecca and Seig joined the other three and headed over to the inn where the cookoff was to be.
Raimondo heads back into the kitchen to start his meal, while the others sit and discuss who they could get to judge the contest, when Redmond and his entourage arrive with Armond, who has already started his food, and just needs to touch it up, to finish it. Redmond tells us that he has several people with him that will judge the contest. Sieg then informs him that a third, unbias party, will be the one to judge the cookout. Redmond stands there for a moment, with a young woman at his arm, before sitting down at the closest table. She is dressed all in black and wearing a vail. Rebecca stands staunch and looks at the woman, but notices that she is looking down, not at the group, and it appears that she had been crying. "Who would you get?" Redmond asks "The rats from the sewers?"
Renee replied to him "Doesn't Armond need them to finish up his meal for you?" which gets Redmond sputtering a moment for a reply. Instead he yells at Reynard to send him a drink, without "half of the piss you usually pour in it". Reynard clenches his teeth, but heads back to get the drink, and saids "Your drink, with half the piss!" Redmond looks down at it, and then hands it over to the woman in black, "You may drink." he saids.
Rebecca, who had been watching the Fatewitch, walks over to her and in Vodacce saids "You don't have to drink it."
While Seig calls Redmond a coward for not trying the drink first, and making a lady try it first. "It's nothing but swill anyway." Redmond replies, then turns and yells at Rebecca "She does not speak to anyone, especially in that foul snakebitting language!"
He then turns to a few of his men. "She has been here long enough, take her to the carriage." Several of his guards roughly handle her out the door. Redmond turns and saids "So, who is going to judge the contest?"
"The Wachhunde" said Rebecca, who had heard a few stories about them. "They seem like the best choice."
"Loring, huh?" Redmond snorts. "Well, I guess he will have to do, since you will not agree on any that I have brought with me."
Since the decision had been made, Seig and Renee head out to find Loring, while Rebecca and Rowena hang around the inn to make sure that none of the foods could be tampered with. Time passes while the cooks prepare, and Rebecca takes the time to check Redmonds arcana, finding none to her surprise that he had "Arrogance" as a hubris. She then decided to check to see if any tampering had been done to Armond, since he had been at Redmonds estate overnight, and in the company of a Fatewitch. Getting a sighting of Armond, after a bit of trouble, she finds that one of his strands of influence (staves), was extreemly large and followed it out the door, to see it head off into the distance.
Seig and Renee, after a couple of false starts, getting their directions mixed up, finally ask a town local where they might find Loring. They are directed to the Bone Bridge and a particular bar closeby. Making their way to it, they find one of the Wachhunde in their black and white checked shirt, and ask to talk to Loring. The Wachhunde informs them that Loring is a busy man, and would need to know what they needed to talk to him about. Seig explaines about the cookoff contest, which confuses the man, and he saids that it would just be better to talk straight to Loring, and takes them to the bar. Inside they are taken to a table that has several Wachhunde sitting at it, and one turns to their guide and asks "What is it James?"
"It's best if they tell you, sir." he replies, and then heads back out on duty.
Loring looks at them and ask what they want. Seig ask him if he would like to take down Redmond a peg or two. That catches Loring's attention, and he calls over for more drinks for them, as they sit and tell Loring of all that has happened. Once he hears of the conditions, he agrees and heads back with them.
They arrive in sight as Rebecca is checking out the strand from Armond, and as they get closer, she sees that the strand stops at Loring and he is literally surrounded by the green strand. Seeing this, she knows the contest will not be fair, unless she too pulled some strands to even up the score. Joining the men and Renee as they return, she sits down at a table with them, checking on the strand between Raimondo and Loring, finding it very weak and thin. Taking the strand she builds it up with tugging, til it is almost the same size as the one from Armond. She then tries to build up a bit more luck for him, but doesn't have the strength, and sits back exausted watching the strands, and hopes for the best.
Loring tries both of the meals, but in the end, it was very close, he states, but had to choose Armond. He had been reading over the contract of the cookout while eating, and said that though it stated that if Armond lost, he would have to inform of all that he had done, it did not state that he would not be trialed if he won. So, even though Armond won, Loring motioned to a couple of his men to arrest him. Redmond leaves at this time with his men, and as the carriage leaves, we hear "It wasn't good enough bitch!" along with a hard slaping sound of a hand to a face.
None of the group liked leaving that unchallenged, but they knew if they did, that Redmonds guards would block their way, while Redmond would get back to his estate, and probably abuse the woman more. As they head back inside, Emelio returns, out of breath. "Did I miss it?!" he ask, reguarding the cookout, a bit upset to find out he did. Rebecca tells him a bit about what happened, and he stiffens when he hears about the Fatewitch. "Was she young, with blonde hair and brown eyes?" he ask. Yes, we inform him, from what we could see through the vail. He stands for a moment, then sits down and saids "I need to confess. She is my sister, rather, my half-sister, and that is the reason I am here in Freiburg."

"My father was a lustful man, and it is only recently that I discovered that he was unfaithful to my mother. It was the reason I had been in Vodacce, when you last saw me. I was trying to find my sister and bring her home. I found out through information gathered, that she had been sold by her mother, in hopes that a good marriage would come out of it, for her daughter. Unfortunately, the man she was sold too, sold her to Redmond, and shipped her here to Freiburg. I confronted my father about it, and we had a fight, and he cut me from the family fortune. I have spent the day at the banks trying to see If I can get a loan, so that I can pay off the dealer, and have him return my sister here to me. That is why I was hesitant earlier. I am a broke man. I need to pay the dealer, a man known as L'Incubo della Strega, Viltore Vargas, ten thousand guilders, to get my sister back. But I had no luck."
Seig listens to what Emelio has to say, then ask him when he needs the money by. Emelio informs him that he needs it before the end of the week. Meanwhile, at the mention of L'Incubo della Strega, Rebecca gets a chill down her back. Growing up in Vodacce, one of the things she had been told, as a Fatewitch, was never to run, because L'Incubo della Strega would come after you. "Where are you to meet him, this Vargas?" she ask Emelio, before Seig could reply. "Here in Freiburg, in another bar, called 'Rat's Hole'.
Seig looks over to Emelio, and informs him that he will give him the money he needs, but on the condition that he goes with Emelio to the bar. After a bit of disagreement, Emelio agrees that Seig may come to the bar, but they must go seperately, so that Vargas doesn't know they are there together. Seig agrees. Rowena at the same time says "But what if he takes the money, then leaves, without getting your sister back. Wouldn't it be easier just to rescue her from Redmond?"
"No, because then Vargas will have to get her back for Redmond, and though I am a fair swordsman, he does not play by the rules I hear. The best way would be to pay him, so that he would not follow me, that is why I need the money."
Rebecca looks over at Seig, and then back to Emelio. "Since you have confessed, and told me that you are no longer with the wealth of your family, I too must confess." she saids to Emelio. "I can not go anywhere with you while this man is here, for I too am Strega. If he sees me, he will return me to my family, for he undoubtabily knows all about me too. I have heard stories about L'Incubo della Strega."
Emelio looks at her, grabbing her hand and kissing it. "It is because of you, dear Lady, that I decided to search for my sister, and rescue her. For I have known you have magic, for you have magicked my heart with your beauty. Could I, that loves one Strega, allow my own sister to be denied happiness herself, as I know that she can not be happy with that man!" Looking back over at Seig he saids "We will go in a couple of days, when you have aquired the money." Seig nods in return.
Durning the days between, the birthday party was a success, and the group rest and shops for needed items. Finally the money arrives, and that night Emelio and Seig head over to the Rat's Hole. Emelio arrives first, with Seig following a ways behind. They sit a different tables, Seig where he can overhear anything that Vargas may say to Emelio. The place is rough and rowdy, but silence decends over the place, when the door bangs open, and a man, dressed in the most updated of Vodacce clothing walks in. In such a place like this he sticks out like a ruby in a bunch of riverstones. Scanning the room, he finds Emelio, and heads over to him. On the way there, a man calls out in Eisen about how dandified the Vodacce is, and without anyone seeing the Vodacce draw his blade, it is sticking out of the now dead Eisenman's throat. "I speak your language." he saids, in un-accented Eisen, while pulling out the sword in such a way that it flicks off any blood, and returns it to his sheath, without looking, and continues over to Emelio.
"Are you Vargas?" Emelio asks. "I am his man, come to pick up the money and make the terms." the Vodacce replies. "Give me the money, and in two days you can pick up your sister at the old church ruins outside of the city."
Emelio glances over at Seigs table, unsure about handing over the money. But he figures it is the only way that he will see his sister, so he does, and the Vodacce man takes it and saids "In two days." then turns and leaves the building.
That is where we ended last night.
