Hey all, I finally completed it. The Freiburg Directory is a Themeatic Index for the Freiburg Boxed Set. It takes all of the locations in the Sights of Freiburg Book and lists them by catagory, like the Yellow Pages. This is only the first release, and I'm working on releasing another version in a few months with more artwork, a better cover, and a map depicting Freiburg's various districts (I completed the map but an error with my Adobe Acrobat is keeping me from adding it to the document), as well as fixes to errors. Hope you all enjoy. The Freiburg Directory (2.38MB) - http://kckrupp.cabspace.com/7thsea/freiburgdirectory.pdf

Keta,

Might I say that that is an EXCELLENT, EXCELLENT little pdf you have there?

It's clean looking, not too hard on the print cartridge and looks like you put a lot effort into it. I consider this a must have for anyone running Freiburg.

The Directory is very cool!  Very easy to follow and a great additional reference to the already excellent Freiburg set.

Page 16 appeared as a blank page when I was scrolling through, but that could be due to my version of Adobe.

Would this really be something to give to the players?  Seems like some of the locations wouldn't be public knowledge.

Thanks for the time and effort to make this and thanks for posting it here for all to see and share!

This is excellent work. It makes going around Freiburg all the clearer. Where can I get advertizing space?

Thanks, I hope people find it useful. As for the kinks

Intersting problem...mine is having problems with page 22, but after the fourth download or so it doesn't seem to be giving me that problem anymore. Try saving it and then looking through it, because when it gave me the blank page I saved it and opened it up in Acrobat from my hard disk and it worked fine.

A few other things I've noticed: I keep getting an error message while viewing the file through the link (the version off the website not the one I have saved). The message says "Expected End of Color Space." I didn't get this error when I downloaded the file and loaded off of my hard disk.

Also, two of the pictures don't seem to be loading: The Fox Den Club and Little Worlds. The pictures in in the Microsoft.doc version, so it must have been a problem in the conversion process.

I think the problems are all part of the conversion process, actually. My Acrobat is on the fritz and my CD-Rom drive is acting up so I can't just uninstall and then reinstall. Once I get all the kinks figured out I'll get the second version up.

Hmm...I was hoping it would be something for players to go through to help them decide what kind of places they might want to go to or check out beyond what's listed in the Welcome to Freiburg resource. Of course GMs may just keep it with themselves and when their players ask "Where can I find [insert object]" the GM can just flip to it.

What locations are you thinking of in particular? List them and I'll consider moving them to the Game Master's section.

I'm actually thinking about making an addition to the Directory later for my Freiburg Campaign, which would all just be locations I've created. If I ever get around to it, you might be able to snag some advertizing space in there.

One last thing. Here is the map in .jpg format until I can get it included in the PDF.

I opened the document again and was able to see all of the pages.  I did get one of those "Expected End of Color Space" popups, but no big deal since I can read the whole thing anyway.

The locations that I thought might not be public knowledge would be the Explorer's Guild and the Knights of Rose  & Cross.  I wasn't sure  just how secret these two societies are.  In our Theah, the Explorer's Society is fairly secretive outside of Avalon.  Haven't been using the Knights of Rose & Cross.  I also didn't realize there was a Swordsman's Guild presence in Freiburg, but am glad to see there is one since our duelist will need a place to rest in Freiburg.

Again, excellent work - I'm going to be using this a lot!

Both societies rely on their public image and donations from Patrons, so the majority of their chapterhouses are known locations. The R&C chapterhouse in Freiburg in fact is an extremely historic location with great significance to the Order. That said, both societies do have areas of their chapterhouses that are out of bounds and also whole sites that the public know little about.

Like Mark said, I made the R&C Chapterhouse and Explorers public because both societies tend to keep a very public image. The location of the Explorers in particular I believe are even mentioned in the Welcome to Freiburg book in The Bones section when Welcome to Freiburg discusses the Market in the Round.

Some of the places I considered keeping secret were locations like the Bird in the Hand some of the abscure Jenny locations like the West Garden neart the Stein Complex #160 (which I did leave out from the "Jennys" section) and the small Quintet of Jennys by the dockside stores #139, but I figured they would be trying to advertise, so I ended up leaving them in. I decided to put Bird in the Hand under collectables so it would be included, but not scream "Pawn Shop - go here for dirt!"

I thought about leaving out the Drachen's Tooth #200, but then decided that since it's supposed to keep up appearances as your everyday tavern, it would be better to include it as well. Children of the Drachen #175 sounded like they were public enough of an organization for them to be abscure and sound odd to the players when they see it, but be included

Notice that I did leave out a few like Executioner's Row, the Mad Wolves' Abandoned Carriage House, Rilasciare's Boarded up store, and Redmund Erhar and Alberto Costanza's House as well as Silas' Lake (the latter three of which I listed under people, but couldn't find a good description for them in the Business section so I left them out from there).

Also, it doesn't have to tell Players where a location is. It could be more like

Player: "We need to find a Tailor. *looks up Tailors in the Directory* How about Young Man's Fancy?"

GM: All right, you don't know where it is, but the name does ring a bell - you've probably heard of it mentioned before - why don't you find someone to ask for directions?"

And when you specifically don't want them to look something up in The Directory, just tell them "Sorry your character flips through the directory, but can't find it anywhere in there."

One last thing. As far as the Swordsman's Guild goes, while they do have a presance the rules are relativly lax in Freiburg so a lot goes on without them knowning and so they tend to struggle to keep things running smoothly.
