Dare you take THE TEST?!Let's face it, even in roleplaying a character can be TOO over the top or perfect or angsty. Admit it.

Hah! I am the Anti-Sue!!! Bow down before my nonSueness!

--------------------------------------------------------------
Follow. But! Follow only if ye be men of valour, for the entrance to this cave is guarded by a creature so foul, so cruel that no man yet has fought with it and lived! Bones of full fifty men lie strewn about its lair. So, brave knights, if you do doubt your courage or your strength, come no further, for death awaits you all with nasty, big, pointy teeth.

I may admit to being  over the top now and again. But my 7th Sea PC's? Never!

I got a borderline-Sue on my Fate Witch.  <Shrug>  I think there should be negative points allocated for not being able to fight her way out of a wet paper bag.  After all the hallmark of the Mary Sue is that she upstages the rest of the cast at every turn.  I'm not sure that a PC can be a Mary Sue.  They are supposed to stand out.

However, I'm entirely against a GM putting a Mary Sue NPC into the game.  Few things rob a game of its fun more than watching a NPC ally upstage the entire party.  Even NPC allies who are accomplished in a field of expertise (fighting, politics, etc.), shouldn't upstage the players in all fields of endeavour.

Stand out, yes.  Constantly steal spotlight and/or upstage other players, no.  Trample over the norms of the game, HELL NO!

I've seen waaaaaaaaaay too many Sues and Stus in my gaming experience.  I understand giving a character a little oomph, but some players take it far too overboard.

Like the literate in nearly every language (and never suffered the consequences or social stigma for reading), uber-rich, favored niece of Vincenzo Caligari Fate Witch who was schtupping Allende AND Sandoval AND El Vago that I had to deal with as a fellow player.

Then there was my ex-boyfriend who constantly created heroes to wangst and emo and ever-pine after unattainable NPCs (Queen Elaine, Yngvild Olafsdottir, Lady Jamais Sices du Sices and a high ranking Sidhe noble with a very jealous brother who Cursed him to have a wandering eye once he left the Triple Kingdoms...and his character was Eisen).

Then there was that debacle of a PBEM I was in a couple years earlier, where there was the horndog Vendel with the mysterious past who was the favored adoptive son of Lorraine Weller, who constantly brought up how stunning and sexy and rich  he was.  Or the wandering Avalon "lady" with the twinkling green eyes, favored in court, hauntingly beautiful  singing voice, expert in Goodfellow, was offered a place in the Druids' circle but chose instead to continue her travels.  And all the NPCs fawned and fell over themselves with glee and thought they [BLEEP]ed ice cream  no matter what they did...because they were the boyfriend and sister of the GM.
