Tossing a few old ideas about for a re-boot (since they are all the rage) of Avalon. The overall theme moves away from Athurian mythos into more Robin Hood territory. The key elements are a quasi-legitamate authority on the throne, backed by non-native force, with the real power "away". The QLA - (the King John of the piece) is nominally holding the reigns of power whilst the real power (Richard) is either away (at the Crusades -spreading the good word through violence and heavy artillery)on some sort of quest, or is maybe still locked in her magical coma.Priam seems like the ideal candidate for the usurper, but with help from who, though? Somone should really fill the Norman shoes in the Norman vs. Saxon dynamic of invaders vs natives. The Montaigne would seem to fit - since they have a history of this sort of thing, but they are otherwise occupied with revolutions and such. Meryths Green Knights, maybe, but there aren't enough of them (one would think) to be effective stooges, and the idea of a watery undead army occupying the whole country is a bit too fantastic for my tastes. Eisen mercenaries are a bit zzzzzzzz....G.

How about Vendel money? Someone with high connections in the Guilds, someone who could encourage trade between the Vendel and the new ruler even despite the unrest in Avalon...someone looking to increase his own sphere of influence (not to mention stifle his rivals in his more secret association). Say, someone like Boli Kollsson.

extrapolate on what I snuck into the background material for the adventurer's Society of

Luthon. Give the power to the Parliament with shadowy men behind their rule and you are good to go.

Montaigne Ex-pats? the Du Lac family trying to regain lost influence?

Problem is, that the "normans" need to be a faction strong enough to dominate the country both politically and physically. Perhaps a large group of the nobility suddenly reverts to their montaigne names and throws their power behind the usurper.

What Robin Hood are you using for reference? Classsic myth? Errol Flynn? "The Hooded Man"? the new one? (where my wife can't understand Why anyone'd pick Robin, when Gisbourne is so much better looking), or perhaps the one where the brave american comes to bring democracy to the unenlightened europeans?

I know you probably aren't planning to run a de facto "Robin Hood campaign" but the England/Avalon presented in different versions of the Robin Myth makes a grand difference.

It'll be the Hodded Man (ah-ah) style mythology through and through. The mystical Herne-figure will be related to the departed Sidhe, which is why it acts as a behind the scenes influence rather than any direct action - the walls or reality are being reinforced by the  "Norman" invaders, making it more difficult  for him/her/it to contact the living world. The PC's will be it's agents in trying to bring down the QLA and his goons and restore Elaine, or a legitamate power, to the throne.

Definitly the one I'd go for as well (well that or Eroll Flynn, but that goes for anything 7th Sea). I'd still say, that the Montaigne ex-pats have started a new trend among the younger noble generation to revert to their old Montaigne sounding names, and generally sucking up to said ex-pats (up to and including staining their hands red to pretend to be port?users, as it's so "terribly modern". these nobles of course regard Glamour as "silly", "old-fashioned" and stuff like that (most of them hasn't got a drop of Glamour in their veins). hence they are joining the movement against the rightful regime.

have you gotten any further yourself?
