Undoubtedly touched on in other threads, but maybe worth talking about here. What landmarks, distinct geographical features, etc. have GMs placed in "their" versions of Theah? Two places of mine:The Enigma Islands; From my first campaign, inspired by Santorini and Krakatoa. The Enigmas are a small group of islands some distance south of the Thalusian Islands. Basically, they are the remnants of a BIG caldera (the edge of a collapsed / submerged volcano). In the centre, where the main part of the crater once was, is an expanse of water roughly twenty miles across and almost perfectly circular. Here, the water tends to be somewhat calmer (and warmer!) than the surroounding ocean. Despite beinglargely surrounded by land (approximate "C"-shape), the bottom of this body of water cannot be detected. On the rim are various islands that slope away normally to the outside, but have glass-smooth vertical cliffs where they face onto the lagoon. The islands themselvesare uninhabited, but nice enough. Most have jungle (with assorted small wildlife). A few haveruins -what might have been a cottages, some pathways, maybe a pier/breakwater,anda road. All made up of stone slabs carefullyfitted together almost perfectly (natch!). All very old (big trees growing through stuff, etc.), with nothingto reveal their origins. The roadway is especially interesting. It is on one of the larger islands, and runs up the slope and ends at the top of the cliff facing the lagoon. Suggestion being that before thevolcanoblew, the road went somewhat further... My PCs arrived in dramatic fashion. Their ship was in a storm, a particularly bad one. The climax was a HUGE wave that picked up their ship (or what was left of it!), and carried it into the lagoon. Rather than being smashed into the cliffs on the far side, the ship was roughly deposited by the wave at thetopof the cliff, where it teetered for a minute before sliding / tumbling down the slope on the far side, through the jungle and ending up ona beach at the bottom. (Note that this all happenedbefore 'Lost' was inflicted on the world.)The Dragon's Teeth: From my current campaign. Just north-west of the Vesten islands,it is an area of ocean distinguished by the numerous large pinnacles of dark rock jutting upwards out of the water. Yes, they look like teeth.Big teeth.HUGE teeth. Vesten legend has it that these are the teeth of the serpent that encircles the world.Within this region, the weatherisusuallyunfriendly (either stormy, foggy, or just plain threatening) and thereare numerouscurrents. This is NOT a good place for ships to be, it kind of screams this at you. The PCs wound up here whilst sailing from Avalon to Kirk. Some Vesten raiders provided a bit of excitement, but the party also made a point ofmapping the area that theypassed through. When the PCs finally got to Kirk, they took their charts to the Sailor's Guild, expecting that they would be of use. They were told (politely!) not to bother - the Sailor's Guild has a veritable mountain of charts for that area going all the way back to early Vesten exploration. Trouble is that NONE of the mapsagree. At all. Not one. It is almost like .. the Dragon's Teeth constantly rearrange themselves. That spooked the PCs quite effectively. What have other GMs created?

  Two places of mine:

The Enigma Islands;  From my first campaign, inspired by Santorini and Krakatoa. Despite being largely surrounded by land (approximate "C"-shape), the bottom of this body of water cannot be detected.  On the rim are various islands that slope away normally to the outside, but have glass-smooth vertical cliffs where they face onto the lagoon.

The islands themselves are uninhabited, but nice enough.  Most have jungle (with assorted small wildlife).  A few have ruins - what might have been a cottages, some pathways, maybe a pier/breakwater, and a road.  All made up of stone slabs carefully fitted together almost perfectly (natch!).  All very old (big trees growing through stuff, etc.), with nothing to reveal their origins.

The roadway is especially interesting.  It is on one of the larger islands, and runs up the slope and ends at the top of the cliff facing the lagoon.  Suggestion being that before the volcano blew, the road went somewhat further...

Nothing as exciting as those, yet, unfortunately.  But, I added a small river from Echine to Coteau in Montaigne.  My hope was for river traffic to be able to reach Charouse a little easier than having to travel the entire expanse of the Country before arriving in Charouse.  Eh, our characters have a small sloop, so they travel by boat a lot.  And since our party started in Paix and has ended up in Charouse, so has spent a lot of time in Montaigne, I felt it was a good thing to give them that avenue.  Now, that being said, the river does twist and turn a lot, so if a person was to want to travel from Charouse to the coast, it might be faster by horse in certain situations(re: D'Artagnan).

Heh Heh Heh - I just read in the Montaigne book there is a river from the coast to Charouse, I believe from Echine, actually.  I guess I didn't actually add anything new after all...
