RE:Origins 2008
(Date Posted:01/28/2008 11:55:36)
I won't presume to speak for Sal, but here are the rumors I've heard floating around.
1. There is talk of a LARP for the Crimson Valor campaign. More than that, I just don't know.
2. Ravenshadow may be making an appearance, commanding a number of games for MWP.
3. One of these may even be written by the mysterious (and extremely handsome) Black Jack Rackham.
4. A new Crimson Valor adventure (Rex Castilleum) written by the same BJR may arrive in time for Origins.
5. Origins 08 will see the return of Rebecca Iavelli (if she can get off her duff and find a hotel).
6. Origins 08 will herald the first attendance of BJR.
7. If BJR gets off his duff, there may be an all fate-witch adventure for just the Rev's board folks (to placate Christina and Rebecca and to make Sal's head explode)

There are plenty of rooms available outside of the Drury. Someone on the Origins Website indicated that the Hyatt was already sold out. They are not. However, with an extra half-day being added to Origins, booking now would be a wise move indeed.
I thought Dave was writing a 7th Sea LARP for someone else???? Hmmm.

Hopefully planning on Origins this year. Just got fired last week so my mind is a bit...tense. Also planning on swinging down to Cincy afterwards to catch the Rush concert at the same time. I have my priorities. :-D
I'm also working on an off-the books pre-gen 7th Sea adventure for 5 people if anyone is interested. The Beloved Hubby will be my co-GM in this endevour...MUHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA~!!!

Well, I got off my duff and got a room. I was lucky and got one of the last 2 available at the Hyatt. Thanks Charlie for letting me know that rooms were still available there. If you went on their web sight, it said that they were all sold out, so that might be where the other person got their info. I thought that they were too, because of that.
Now I'm just going to be poor for the next 2 weeks til my next paycheck, *Sigh!*

RE:Origins 2008
(Date Posted:01/29/2008 17:20:09)
A 7th Sea LARP linked to the Crimson Valor campaign will be there and in place IF my entire universe gets itself righted. Things have been a bit out of whack for the last month but seem to be getting straight.
Now a couple of notes about this...
- It will be a LARP. I will be writing up some pregens as usual. - It is suppossed to be linked to the Living 7th Sea/Crimson Valor campaign from Game Base 7. IF and only IF Those running that campaign actually get around to sending me some of the background Info I needed to set up the NPCs and what not.
- Either way it will be the same plot. - If it does link to Crimson Valor, I will be allowing players to Play their tabletop characters from the campaign. It doesn't take me more than a minute to convert a character to LARP stats. - I will NOT be allowing home characters for this game just because it's a balance issue.
---------------------------------------------------
I am still planning to help run that very late on saturday night Mega-Paranoia game that we have been doing to 11 years now. (egads, time flies when you are killing clones) It's the most fun you can have at Origins if you can stay awake.
I have no idea what the plot or theme is. i never get that information until about two hours before the event.
--------------------------------------------------------
I am not scheduling to run any tabletop events. I'm not promising to write any. but I will probably have enough of a plot to run the following.
The 7th sea game i was considering running last year. it would be a pregen thing, have no sorcery and be all sorts of crazy. If you thought that thing with the O'bannon and the wine was nuts, you have seen nothing yet. (If I wasz going to do a swansong, this may be it)
A sequel to the "It came from the Late, Late Show" that I ran two years ago. Biff Bingle and the Space Rangers have at least one Sequel in them.
------------------------------------------------------
I talked with Ravenshadow early this week, or late last week (time really doesn't work for me like it does the rest of you anymore, it all blurs) and as of that conversation, he is handling events for Margeret Weis' company at Origins. I promised to pinch hit as a GM if he ended up shorthanded. So I could be running a Serenity or Battlestar Galactica event and not know it.
--------------------------------------------------------
I have promised to give up all my plans for a Lunch Money LARP in the parking garage. I still think taking their ticket hitting them with a pipe and grabbing their wallet sounds like a great game.
--------------------------------------------------------
The following games are things you should think about if you have the time:
-- Dread: simple game where you draw Jenga pieces instead of using dice. tip the stack and fail horribly, pull the piece and you may live. Great Horror game and the guys that run it are really great fellows.
-- Spirit of the Century: Someone will be running events for this, it's a great game, go try it.
-- Aerodrome: A world war 1 minitature dogfight game. you get a plane and 5 players on your side to take on the other 6 guys from the enemy. Planes are provided for use. rules are easy to learn. as a miniature game, you only need to worry about one piece and they tend to get two games in during the 2 hour session. And the regulars are some of the most polite and friendly folks I ever met at a con in the minis room. Nobody seems to ever pull an ego fit. they don't sulk, it's very refreshing.
-- A crimson Valor event: you will need a character for the Larp anyhow, better it be one you designed.

If we ran a 7th Sea character in a Game Base7 event beforehand (in my case it'd be 2006), would they still have the character in their records? And WOO-HOO~! to a sequel for Biff! *flashes perfect grin*

If you had a character in "Song of the Sea" two years ago, Frank and Kristin gave players in its successor campaign, "Crimson Valor", until the minicon over the New Year to convert it. Otherwise they will give you 100HP, plus I believe 75XP, to create a new one (I created a new one, but the time for the extra 75XP may have expired as well). If you want, I can try to get an email for you to argue your case.

Kristin and Frank are both procrastinators. Is that a threat that I should be passing along to them?

Ugh, tell me about it. After GC last year I sent a list of 25 adventure ideas, didn't hear back until three days ago. Ah well, it's a labor of love. Mark

RE:Origins 2008

Grace, you are talking to me... If it's a LARP issue, you know we can work out something agreeable if they don't still have the character on file. (Hell, I may still include Muffin at this point)
As for passing along threats, no don't do that. If they want the event tied in, they will get me what I need and if not, well, I'd still be amenable to adding in some characters from the campaign for those that have their own copies. (particularly those from this board) But I'd make no promise that you would be on the same stat level as everyone else.
That's the big issue right now, getting a rough idea of how advanced the average character is in that game so everyone is on a mostly fair playing field. I don't want the pregens over powered to the established characters and I don't want them getting stomped on either.
Plus it would help to have things like the names of the ships, the Major NPC crew that seems to get tagged along on most of the adventures to Mary Sue things up, etc.
But I have my own captains, crews and what not if need be.

Well, I ran a distant Salamanca cousin for a Games Base 7 event (the Ussura adventure). I believe cpugs' reaction was "Another Salamanca?! That's it...we're [MEEP]ed!"
I still have her stats written up if they don't have her.
I'm sure Mike & I are more than willing to play someone other than Francois & Antoine for a change, but Muffin will come, even if he isn't invited. Muffin has become our Origins' mascot...he has a fan base!
