Was just wondering if anyone had ever used the roll and keep system for a fantasy setting. Have a friend wanting to try it out (He hates the classes and levels part of D20), but isn't sure of how well it will work.So far it's looking pretty good, just don't know exactly how we're going to work armor yet.

I can't say as I know how well it'd play (unless your friend wants a much more rules-lite kind of game) especially given that none of the players could ever actually kill anyone... (Well that is, without incurring some kind of penalty to their reputation).  If it's just the dislike of levels/classes, well heck there are truckloads of generic RPGs that will fit well in Fantasy.  Off the top of my head there's Hero System and GURPS for those who simply love numbers crunching rules for everything, there's also the d6 system (same system as the old WEG Star Wars), and Savage Worlds (less detail oriented, faster play).  I've run fantasy games in both Hero and GURPS (my personal preference of those two is GURPS as Hero makes it much more likely that you'll beat your opponent senseless so you have to go through that extra, "...and I kill him." stage).

Well in my experience most of the generic RPGs I've played have their flaws. Never cared for WEG system too much and Savage Worlds has some gaping flaws in it that I won't go into because it'll start me on a rant. Classic Deadlands could work, but he doesn't know the system well enough to run it. I think he's wanting to use the 7th Sea R+K mostly because it's easy to learn and we already have the books. Reputation would obviously need a tweak to work, but i"m mostly wondering if anyone else has doen this and what their experience was with it.

I haven't done it, but I have some ideas, most of them feature a partial re-write, but...

Well we won't be starting until Fall when the next college semester starts, but so far we've just been working on basic character creation. We replaced nations with races so

Orc=+1 Brawn, Halfling=+1 Finesse and Small, Gnomes=+1 Wits and small, Human=+1 to stat of choice, Dwarf=+1 Resolve, Wood Elf=+1 Finesse, High Elf=+1 Wits

Half breeds choose the stat bump and race they are treated as for creation purposes. Other than that we've just thrown out all the thea specific advantages and gone with the rules pretty much like they are. The only thing we havn't really worked out yet is how to implement in armor. 7th Sea has Dracheneisen, but we feel thats a bit too much for base armor.

My idea at the moment is for normal armor use the dracheneisen table, but it subtracts unkept dice and half the TN bump given and also apply it as a die penalty for atheltic actions. Then the table can be used for admantine. But it still has some kinks that need worked out

This reminds me when a friend and me tried to work R+K rules into Star Wars. Stormtroopers are pretty much brute squads. The d20 Star Wars is such a horrible horrible system. Anyway, overall it works, just need to iron out the details, mostly replacing Sorcery with Force and how mastery levels affect different powers, and categorizing powers and so on. Only problem I see with a fantasy setting is working fantasy magic in somehow unless you are just going to use 7th sea magic.

Well at the moment I think we're just going to be using the 7th Sea magic. We're really wanting to make sure the system for armor works that we're going to use before we tweak around with anything else.  No one in the group is a magic user though, so it will probably only come up with enemies.
