"First Aid:  The TN for First Aid is the number of Flesh Wounds the patient has suffered. Success eliminates all current
Flesh Wounds."

If all flesh wounds are erased when you either take a dramatic wound or when the combat ends, when does this knack come into play? Seems like a great waste of points to spend if a character wants to be a physician of some sort.

RE:First Aid - Whats the point?

Certainly if it were a duel you were fighting, there'd be no reason to use first aid.  However, lets say that you and your companions are on a deserted island and are suddenly attacked by a hoard of asprey.  Litterally dozens of them are all around.  Not being particularly tough, your group wades in to defend themselves.  But alas, one of the asprey finds a weakness in your defenses and slips past your sword and up your shirt.  One of your friends might want to perform first aid immediately to ensure that the asprey doesn't do any permenant damage.

Not to mention, you have some GMs who play it that those flesh wounds DON'T automatically go away after a fight and need to be tended to (like, say, you need to ride off on horseback to escape and don't have the luxury of rest).  Your handy PC doctor is there to patch you up with first aid so you don't aggravate all those cuts and slashes into something worse.

Also, tending to other illnesses.  Bit of food poisoning (or regular poisoning) has knocked off a handful of flesh wounds?  Let him use first aid with the Thean equivalent of kaopectate.

I see - ok thanks for the fast feedback. Had the book on my shelf since it's release and I'm only going to start running it now. And I have impatient players - so it's research asap...

Well, if you are looking for an adventure (or campaign) to start them with, might I recommend the Hammer and Tongs campaign in the Freiburg boxed set. It gives a great example of what to expect with swashbuckling storytelling and it's a darn good campaign to boot. (actually IMHO it's one of the best pre-packaged adventures ever).

Once you get done with that, I hear that some poor fool spent a year on the boards here posting an adventure/campaign/setting idea per week.  You might get something out of that. If you are curious you can find it HERE

Another thing to consider is how the GM treats bad guys. Too often in games, they fight until all are dead. Less often, but slightly more realistically, they will take a morale check and retreat when they take "x" number of casualties or dramatic wounds.

Depending upon the bad guys, they might recover their morale and reenter the fray, especially if the villain instills some some typical threats and bluster to get them to attack again. Since this is a continuation of the scene, the flesh woulds don't go away. If no first aid was performed, the good guys have given the baddies an advantage by giving them a head start toward dramatic wounds.

If I were GM, my bad guys would get their flesh wounds treated along with the pep talk by the villain. Then the good guys would look pretty foolish.
