Hey folks,

I've dug throughout the books but as always I seem to find better solutions at the think tank here. Is there travel time explained anywhere or is it simply left to GM caveat? A player asked me how long it would typically take for a ship to get to Avalon from Vodacce and I simply don't know!

Well, I know the question has been asked before, but at the moment I don't have the time to search, as I am getting ready for work (and finding it can be like cracking a safe; you got to know how and when the question was asked, who might have asked it, ect...) but did you check search?

But the major answer to your question, and I know that BlackJackRackham has stated this before: The distance between them is "the speed of plot".  Depending on how soon, or not how soon you want your group to get from one place to another. You are the GM, it's your decision.

Realisticly, the time could take several weeks/months depending on the time and the currents of the ocean, and other objects you find along the way, or ones that find you.  The ones that find you, are usually not good.

Thanks Rebecca - I thought that might be hte case seeeing hte drama nature of the game.

Still, I'm just after a ROUGH idea, I can shave days and weeks when required - but i'd like to be able to have a starting point.

I think I can do you one better, Ships and Sea Battles, p.35 there is a chart with time in weeks (usually narrowed down to 2 week incriments) for travel from any nation to any other nation (including *ulp* Cathay).  Sorry I just threw up in my mouth a little bit.

Here's a glass of water to take off the taste. I don't suppose it's mentioned anywhere else? I don't have that book (And don't intend getting it - the players aren't interested in a seafaring campaign).

Thanks for the titbit Mr Rackham as always you are a scholar and a gentleman.

PS: I don't suppose I could tax your command of the subject further: After the events in Erebus Cross Pt 1 (no spoilers) in Ussura with the General - is there an official/canon aftermath to the event?

Thanks.

Montague receiving the the letter form he party creates the end of the campaign in Ussura.  Montague orders the withdrawal of Montaigne troops and gets ambushed on his way out.

He is attacked again in eisen by Fauner Posen at teh point where his army is demoralized by the events in Ussura and crossing the mountains, physically weakend from the combat ad out of supplies.  Montague surrenders himself to Posen in exchange for allowing his troops safe passage to Montaigne.

Montegue is held for a ransom that Leon refuses to pay as it keeps h General out of his hair.  According to canon, he is released after the end of the revolution but I do not recall if it was the exiled royalists that bought his release or the revolutionary government.  My campaign saw him sprung much earlier by some players hoping to use his tactical knowledge in Freiburg.

IIRC, in the Tower of Faith adventure heroes (at the behest of Cardinal Erika Durkheim, and the DK) make the trade with Fauner Posen for General Montegue.  Fauner tries to screw them over but is unsuccessful.  Wacky Hijinks ensue.

I remember all this because Tower of Faith was the very first time I ever played 7th Sea.

Tower of Faith can be found in The Rapier's Edge

EDIT: As for where else the chart might be, I looked over on AEGs old site but no luck.  As for not buying it, I checked on ebay and there are two right now (one for 15 the other for 16 dollars) That's below cover price, but I bet you could find a deal somewhere.

MORE EDIT:  DrivethruRPG has a downloadable PDF for 12.50

MORE MORE EDIT:  If you're just talking about one trip (which I'm guessing you are because your players aren't interested in a ocean going campaign) you could always just tell us what the trip is. I'm probably competent enough to look it up.

Do you intend to go vis the Great River or by sea?

River:

Say 3 mph by sweeps or tow path = 900 miles  = 300 hours = 13 days to Barcino.
Say 5 mph by sail = 180 hours = 7 1/2 days to Barcino.

Say an average of 7 1/2 mph by sail = 5 days to Carleon.

So that's around 18 days one way and 12 1/2 another.

Sea:

Say an average of 7 1/2 mph by sail = 3000 miles = 16-17 days.
