Re :   First Aid - Whats the point?

Another thing to consider is how the GM treats bad guys. Too often in games, they fight until all are dead. Less often, but slightly more realistically, they will take a morale check and retreat when they take "x" number of casualties or dramatic wounds.

Depending upon the bad guys, they might recover their morale and reenter the fray, especially if the villain instills some some typical threats and bluster to get them to attack again. Since this is a continuation of the scene, the flesh woulds don't go away. If no first aid was performed, the good guys have given the baddies an advantage by giving them a head start toward dramatic wounds.

If I were GM, my bad guys would get their flesh wounds treated along with the pep talk by the villain. Then the good guys would look pretty foolish.

Re :   First Aid - Whats the point?

Well, if you are looking for an adventure (or campaign) to start them with, might I recommend the Hammer and Tongs campaign in the Freiburg boxed set. It gives a great example of what to expect with swashbuckling storytelling and it's a darn good campaign to boot.  (actually  IMHO it's one of the best pre-packaged adventures ever).

Once you get done with that, I hear that some poor fool spent a year on the boards here posting an adventure/campaign/setting idea per week.  You might get something out of that. If you are curious you can find it  HERE

I see - ok thanks for the fast feedback. Had the book on my shelf since it's release and I'm only going to start running it now. And I have impatient players - so it's research asap...

Re :   First Aid - Whats the point?

Not to mention, you have some GMs who play it that those flesh wounds DON'T automatically go away after a fight and need to be tended to (like, say, you need to ride off on horseback to escape and don't have the luxury of rest).  Your handy PC doctor is there to patch you up with first aid so you don't aggravate all those cuts and slashes into something worse.

Also, tending to other illnesses.  Bit of food poisoning (or regular poisoning) has knocked off a handful of flesh wounds?  Let him use first aid with the Thean equivalent of kaopectate.

Re :   First Aid - Whats the point?

Certainly if it were a duel you were fighting, there'd be no reason to use first aid.  However, lets say that you and your companions are on a deserted island and are suddenly attacked by a hoard of asprey.  Litterally dozens of them are all around.  Not being particularly tough, your group wades in to defend themselves.  But alas, one of the asprey finds a weakness in your defenses and slips past your sword and up your shirt.  One of your friends might want to perform first aid immediately to ensure that the asprey doesn't do any permenant damage.

Just my 2.7348593475 cents worth.

"First Aid:  The TN for First Aid is the number of Flesh Wounds the patient has suffered. Success eliminates all current
Flesh Wounds."

If all flesh wounds are erased when you either take a dramatic wound or when the combat ends, when does this knack come into play? Seems like a great waste of points to spend if a character wants to be a physician of some sort.

Re :   Shhh!!! A new Campaign - REBECCA STAY OUT!

I've been over to Ian Mackinder's site and it's more thorough but Im looking for details.  For example, the Swordsman's guild began in 1644.  What were the original schools accepted?  I know many were around then, but some (like Torres) decided against seeking inclusion.

Also, how about the whole Richard IV/Queen Margaret thing?  I know Richard ascended the throne in 1614 and that Margaret died in 1654 but when did he die/she take the throne?

Someone who has posted either on this site or on AEG has compiled a huge historical record of Theah. Hopefully, he/she will see your notice and respond (or someone who has seen it will remember who and where...

Topic :   Shhh!!! A new Campaign - REBECCA STAY OUT!

Ok, So I've started thinking about a new 7th Sea campaign (actually has split into two  but lets not worry about that for now), and I need some help.  I want to do a bit of a historical game  (set  around 1645) so I was hoping there was someone out there who'd compiled a list of the important events.    I've looked at the official 7th Sea timeline and it gives me some of the basics  (Leon is L'Empereur and he's just about to murder Rosa Valasquez de Castille, the Swordsman's Guild was formed last year, etc.  ) but I'm looking  for a bit more complete.

If anyone can help, I'd sure appreciate it.

For those interested, I downloaded some of the pictures I took, (but not all), of this year's Origin's.

Here is the link, you will need to copy and paste.

Just thought I'd say happy Fourth of July to all us 'mericans.  No bright sunny day up here in Mass, but the cloud cover will make for good fireworks viewing.

Re :   Schools from the previous site

Yeah, I know I spammed my school here and at Sir Jack's site.  Rebecca has it right though.  If you posted it here, look it up by name.  I don't think people posted schools not belonging to them though.

Re :   [d20] 4th Edition 7thSea

you want me to help convert a fun cinematic game that is all about freeflowing creative combat into 4th ed?

This is the version that takes four hours to run two encounters when the demo team runs it.  4th ed. is a boardgame hiding behind an RPG mask.  It's not even a well balanced tactical boardgame at that.      4th ed. at best will be a gateway product to better games.  Adding the word riposte to some mechanic does not make that game more swashbucklery.

Good luck and all that but don't ever expect me to support any sort of abberation like this conversion.  Genre games never have fit well into generic system play.  Half the reason they work is because rules are tailored to highlight their style.

Re :   Schools from the previous site

That is actually hard to say. When Aimoo did a recent beta re-make over, it screwed up a lot of stuff, that is still being figured out. Your best bet, if you remember the title of your school, is to do a search. It might pop up, it might not.

:) I like

I should have been a little bit more specific though. I submitted a sword school there ages ago, would it have made it over someplace or has it been lost to the Maelstrom?

Hey all,
Been out of touch for a while... Would any of the schools from 7thsea.info have made it over here?

Re :   Origins 2008

So my first Origins is in the can.

After so many years going to GC I can't help but compare the two, and I'd have to say I rate them different but equal.  Origins has the smaller crowds, cleaner town, more familiar faces, and Mongolian BBQ.  But overall I'd have to say I'm definitely coming back next year.

I was really glad to finally put some faces to the names of several of you.  _Christina_ and  Rebecca I've already met, but Sal, LG, Crimson Joe, Cpugs, I'm already fleshing out the "All Fate-Witch" adventure.  You've been forewarned.

Sal, I will be doing Mega-Paranoia until I'm too old to run circles around the troubleshooters.

Cpugs, I've started to outline another adventure involving the fate of that cross (and yes, I will make sure the Captain's are both indisposed).
